Newcastle United signed Bruno Guimaraes in January but the Brazilian midfielder is yet to start a game for the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s side have been in fantastic form recently. They are unbeaten in five Premier League games and even picked up three very impressive wins on the bounce during that run.
Newcastle are now out of the relegation zone and if they can keep up their form, there’s no way they’ll get back into the bottom three this season.
That would be a massive achievement for Howe, who is still looking to improve his side with new tactics. One potential strategy involves Guimaraes.
Howe wants to pair Bruno Guimaraes and Jonjo Shelvey in Newcastle midfield
Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Joelinton’s brilliant form in the middle of the park has made them undroppable for Newcastle. That’s the reason why Guimaraes hasn’t started a game yet, but that could soon change.
The Athletic reveal today that Howe is brainstorming a way to get his Brazilian sensation into his starting eleven. One of the ideas he wants to explore is a double-six pivot of Shelvey and Guimaraes.
It has been claimed that the two midfielders’ fantastic technical ability makes them a really enticing option for Howe, who wants to give it a try in the very near future.
That, however, would require a change in formation – potentially a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-1-1 – which would see Willock and Joelinton move higher up the pitch.

TBR View:
Everybody has their opinion of Jonjo Shelvey and they’re all entitled to it but nobody can deny the former Liverpool man’s technical ability in the middle of the park.
Since Howe’s arrival, Shelvey, labelled as ‘outstanding‘ by former boss Steve Bruce, has been excellent. He has been one of the biggest reasons why Newcastle have played so well and it really will be interesting to see how a partnership with Guimaraes would fare.
Newcastle take on Brentford next in the Premier League and Howe is expected to go with the same midfield three as the last game. However, giving Guimaraes a go alongside Shelvey wouldn’t be a bad idea at all, especially considering how poor the Bees have been recently.
