Report: How Cedric feels about Fenerbahce after Arsenal sign Tomiyasu
Cedric Soares has no intention of leaving Arsenal for Fenerbahce despite the Gunners signing Takehiro Tomiyasu, according to a report from Football London.
The transfer window may be shut in England and a number of other countries. But Turkey is one place players are still able to move to with their window not closing until next Wednesday.
Fener want the Portuguese. They were linked with the Gunners man earlier in the summer. But it was claimed that Cedric was keen to stay put.
However, much has changed at the Emirates since then. While Hector Bellerin has left on loan, the Gunners spent £19.8 million on deadline day to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Tomiyasu is capable of playing at centre-back. But it would be little surprise if Mikel Arteta planned to deploy him at right-back.
And with that, Cedric would have perhaps been forgiven for having second thoughts about his future.
But Football London reports that the 30-year-old wants to stay. And it is suggested that he will not be joining the Turkish club this summer.
Arsenal must have been tempted to cash in on Cedric amid Fenerbahce links
Obviously, Arsenal are now unable to replace any players who leave the club in the coming days. So Arteta may welcome Cedric’s stance.
But financially, a deal would surely work well for Arsenal.
Cedric is on £75,000-a-week at the Emirates. That is a lot for a player who does not start regularly. Ideally, he would be a backup option in both full-back roles.
So moving those wages on would have been a boost.
However, it appears that Cedric is not planning to go anywhere for the time-being.
