Cedric Soares would prefer to stay at Arsenal and fight for a place amid interest from Fenerbahce, according to a report from Goal.

As noted by Goal, the Gunners’ overhaul of their squad has somewhat stalled with the club looking to raise further funds by moving others on.

Cedric is one of the players attracting attention. It was reported in the last few days that Fener want the Portuguese.

The 29-year-old has had a mixed time at the Emirates. He has performed reasonably well. And he does offer Mikel Arteta an option on both the left and right flank.

However, he has not been able to hold down a regular spot in the side.

And based on how he finished last season, there looks to be every chance that Calum Chambers could start the season as first-choice right-back.

Obviously, Hector Bellerin may also have something to say on that front.

So some may have expected Cedric to be tempted by the possibility of moving to Turkey.

However, it seems that the former Southampton man is not planning to leave.

According to Goal, he would rather stay put and fight for his place. It is noted that he is happy in London.

Keeping Cedric not a bad option for Arsenal – but a good Fenerbahce offer would have been tempting

Cedric is a good player to have in the squad due to his versatility. And he has produced some impressive displays.

But Arsenal are arguably not really in a position to snub any good offers for any of the players not considered regulars in Arteta’s side.

Perhaps Cedric – who earns £75,000-a-week – will get that chance in the coming season. But with Chambers and Bellerin also in the ranks, a reasonable bid from Fenerbahce may have been seen as a real boost for the Gunners.
