Report: Houssem Aouar open to leaving Lyon amid Arsenal and Liverpool links
Long-time Arsenal target, Houssem Aouar, remains open to a move away from Lyon this summer, according to report from France.
L’Equipe (print edition, 8th May 21, P6), claims that while the Frenchman isn’t pushing to leave like he was last summer, he remains ‘open’ to offers from other clubs.
Arsenal have been linked with Aouar for a while now. He was said to be one of their main targets last year. Liverpool meanwhile, were only linked in March, with Goal claiming the Reds had added Aouar to their list.
News of Aouar being open to a switch will be music to the ears of both the Gunners and the Reds. Mikel Arteta is looking to once again overhaul his squad, while Jurgen Klopp will need a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
The 22-year-old is said to be valued at around £43m by Lyon. Indeed, was reported this weekend that Real Madrid had backed away from making a move due to that asking-price.
TBR View: Aouar could be a difference maker, he’d be great for both Arsenal and Liverpool
There’s no doubt that Aouar would be a good signing for either club here. He’s a class act and on his day, one of the more refined midfield players in Europe.
He’s done his business with Lyon for a number of years now and Pep Guardiola is said to be a big fan of him as well.
If he is available for around the £43m mark, then while it might seem a big price, at 22, Aouar could prove good value for money in the long-term.
