Leeds have received an enormous boost in their reported pursuit of Hertha Berlin magician Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian attacker is currently shining for his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But back home, Hertha now want just £21.5m for Leeds target Cunha – according to TMW.

Cunha, 22, has thrown himself onto the radar of numerous European clubs after 13 goal involvements in 27 Bundesliga games for Hertha last term. Scoring seven, he laid on six assists. Bild reported in May that Leeds had registered an interest. The Express said Cunha had a price tag of £30million.

But it appears Hertha have relented, reducing that asking price. To the delight of Leeds, TMW say that Hertha are now requesting a fee of just £21.5million for Cunha. Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of Brazil’s Olympic semi-finalist, though. Zenit and Monaco are also in the race.

Cunha at £21.5m is an absolute no-brainer for Leeds, and other clubs

At that price, the interest in Cunha is only going to increase and increase. The Brazilian is one of the most-exciting talents in German football that is not at a big club. Even while at Leipzig before his move to Hertha, he was impressive. Little over £20million is a no-brainer for Leeds.

Can Leeds win the race? The attraction of Marcelo Bielsa for any South American player is one that does not go away. Cunha will also be keen to play in the Premier League and with Leeds showing potential for European qualification next term, Cunha will surely be tempted by a move.
