Report: Frank Lampard now ready to sell £120k-a-week Everton player in attempt to raise funds

Everton are considering selling centre-back Yerry Mina in order to raise funds, according to the Athletic.

The report suggests that Everton are focusing on trimming their wage bill, and high earning Mina could be one of those set to leave.

The Colombian international’s contribution does not match his current pay the report says, and Everton would be willing to let Mina go.

Mina was on Newcastle’s radar in January, however, it’s unlikely that they will re-enter the race for the 27-year-old, having already signed Sven Botman this summer.

The Athletic also suggest that Andre Gomes could be allowed to leave to help balance the books, and the midfielder is keen on a move abroad.

Selling Mina could allow Everton to bring in some of their most important targets, including Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley.

Everton ready to sell Mina to raise funds

Everton have already brought in a centre-back this summer, with James Tarkowski joining on a free transfer.

Young defender Jarrad Branthwaite has already gone on loan to PSV Eindhoven this summer, leaving Lampard with five first team centre-backs to choose from.

Mina’s poor injury record has made it hard for his Everton managers to rely on him consistently.

Last season, the £120,000 per-week defender only managed 13 league appearances, and in all four of his seasons at Everton, he’s struggled with the intensity of the Premier League.

At the end of every season, Mina is unable to perform for Everton, having never played more than four of Everton’s last ten Premier League matches.

If Everton can’t rely on one of their highest earners to perform at the most important part of the season, then the decision to sell him is hard to argue against.
