Report: Four strikers are now on Arsenal's shortlist to replace Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a new striker in January to provide cover for the injured Gabriel Jesus, and CalcioMercato reveals there are four names on his transfer wish list.

Jesus was a part of Brazil’s World Cup squad in Qatar. He started the game against Cameroon in the group stages and suffered a knee injury in the second half. Further scans showed he required surgery, and he’s now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Arsenal need to replace him, and Arteta reportedly has four forwards on his mind.

Four strikers are now on Arsenal’s shortlist to replace Gabriel Jesus

The January transfer window is just over three weeks away, and it looks like Edu and Arteta are finalising their plans.

The Gunners were expected to bring in a winger and a central midfielder in the winter window, but following Jesus’ injury blow, they may now have to focus their funds on a top-quality striker.

The report claims that Arteta has added four names to his wish list – Cody Gakpo, Dusan Vlahovic, Tammy Abraham and Jonathan David.

The Gunners have been linked with all four players for quite a while now. The report reveals that two of them – Vlahovic and Abraham – have already rejected a move to the Emirates in the past.

Any of the four forwards mentioned above would be brilliant for Arsenal in January, but whether they can get any of them next month remains to be seen.

How many goals have they scored this season?

Gakpo is definitely the standout name on the list – even though he isn’t really a natural centre-forward. The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions for PSV since the start of this season.

David has had a good campaign too. He has managed to score nine times for Lille in the Ligue 1 and has also chipped in with three assists.

Vlahovic is a player Arsenal desperately wanted to sign at the start of this year. The Serbian has seven goals and three assists to his name in 15 appearances for Juventus this season.

Abraham, however, has been really disappointing. The Englishman has scored just four times in 20 appearances for Roma. That is a shock considering he banged in 27 goals under Jose Mourinho last season. However, he’s still a fine player, and he’d be a great option for the Gunners if he’s available.
