Report: Fiorentina reignite interest in Arsenal ace Torreira
Fiorentina have allegedly reignited their interest in Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
What’s the story?
According to Corriere Dello Sport, the £15m-rated Uruguayan is at the top of Guiseppe Lachini’s wish list. However, the Serie A outfit are also targeting Stefano Sensi and Ellyes Skhiri.
The team have been targeting Torreira during the last two transfer windows. It is claimed the Florence-based outfit were going to sign the ace on loan with the option of a permanent deal last September.
However, a transfer failed to materialise and Torreira moved to Atletico Madrid. Despite having opted against signing him on a permanent deal, the 25-year-old enjoyed a successful spell, winning the La Liga title.
Torreira deserves second Arsenal chance
Torreira deserves a second chance at Arsenal amid apparent interest from Fiorentina.
The club are on the cusp of selling Granit Xhaka, who is closing in on a move to AS Roma. Meanwhile, Newcastle are reportedly confident of securing Joe Willock over the next 48 hours.
It leaves the Gunners dangerously short in the centre of midfield. While they have signed Albert Sambi Lokonga, the club isn’t seriously linked with any other midfielder.
Torreira still possesses the necessary quality to make a difference for Mikel Areta’s side. His defensive ability and dogged nature would make him the perfect partner for Thomas Partey.
While Arsenal require money, Torreira is one player they could get away without selling. The defensive ace deserves a second chance to impress under Arteta.
