Report: Everyone at Newcastle United is talking about signing ‘sensational’ £20m player now

Everyone at Newcastle United is talking about signing Leicester City star James Maddison, according to the Telegraph

The Magpies are enjoying a brilliant start to the new campaign and currently sit third in the Premier League table.

Eddie Howe bolstered his squad over the summer as he brought in the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Nick Pope.

Newcastle did miss out on one target and that was Maddison, with the Telegraph claiming that Howe’s men had two bids knocked back for the 25-year-old.

But it seems they are not giving up on their attempts to lure the midfielder to St James’ Park and are still talking about signing him.

Everyone at Newcastle talking about Maddison

The Telegraph reports that Maddison is the name that is on everyone’s lips at Newcastle as they head towards the January window.

The outlet notes that Leicester were adamant Maddison was not for sale over the summer but Newcastle know the club are ‘vulnerable’ due his contract situation.

The Englishman will have just 18-months left on his current deal when the January window opens.

Maddison has performed brilliantly for the Foxes ever since he made the £20 million switch from Norwich City back in 2018.

He enjoyed his best ever season in the Premier League during the last campaign as he registered 12 goals and eight assists.

The ‘sensational’ Maddison is already edging towards topping these numbers this season as he’s bagged six goals and provided four assists.

If Newcastle can lure him to St James’ Park, it would be a real statement signing for the club.

At 25, Maddison is at the peak of his powers and will undoubtedly receive interest from the biggest clubs.

He’s arguably been one of the best creative midfielders in the league over the past two years.

Howe will be keen to secure a marquee signing like Maddison but they will certainly face competition for his signature and Leicester will be desperate to keep hold of their star player.
