Report: Everton want to sign 'incredible' player previously on Barcelona's books, he's open to PL switch
Everton have been linked with a number of left-backs in recent days.
While this isn’t a position the Toffees seem desperate to strengthen, these reports suggest Frank Lampard is nonetheless looking for reinforcements there.
According to Estadio Deportivo – via Sport Witness – the Blues have set their sights on Almeria’s Sergio Akieme.
The Spanish outlet claims Everton are in the race for the 25-year-old alongside Brighton and Crystal Palace.
ED speculates that Akieme could leave Almeria a ‘very juicy amount’ in case any of the above ‘come seriously’ for his signing.
The Spaniards only paid €3.5m (£3m) to sign him from Barcelona in the summer of 2021. Now, his price tag stands at €7.5m (£6.5m).
The outlet points out that none of Everton, Brighton or Palace would have problems affording such an operation.
Therefore, there’s not a lot the La Liga side could do to hold the player.
Akieme himself also seems interested in moving to the Premier League.
Apparently, there are ‘rumours’ which show he’s now more convinced of making that switch.
With that in mind, Almeria are apparently already looking for replacements.
A good shout for Everton
At 25, Akieme still has plenty of years ahead of him but also boasts a decent amount of experience.
He has 126 competitive appearances for Almeria, Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona B under his belt.
Back in 2019, Barca B coach Xavi Garcia Pimienta gave a resounding assessment of Akieme.
“He’s an excellent signing we made,” Sport quoted him as saying.
“We wanted to strengthen that position and we’ve now got it under control.
“It’s difficult to play in this team but he’s adapted really quickly to our style of play. His performance was incredible.
“He’s trained with the first team and Valverde told me he had a chance of making the squad for Leganes, although in the end Morer went instead.
“Whenever we sign a player it’s to improve our side and so they can play for the first team. If Valverde needs him, he’s ready.”
As well as Akieme, Everton have recently been linked with Empoli left-back Fabiano Parisi.
