Report: Everton want to hand Spurs target Anthony Gordon new contract

Everton want to hand Anthony Gordon a new contract amid interest in the youngster from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to a report from The Times.

The Toffees, of course, have sold Richarlison in this window. The move has opened the door for Frank Lampard to bring players in this summer.

And it has probably helped ensure that they can hold onto Gordon. Previous reports claimed that Tottenham made a £100 million bid for Gordon and Richarlison.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have joined the race for the 21-year-old this week.

Gordon is reportedly happy to stay at Everton after his remarkable breakthrough last season. And his contract at Goodison Park has another three years left to run.

However, the Toffees want to ensure that they are in an even stronger position in case any offers arrive for the academy graduate. The Times reports that they are now looking to agree a new contract with Gordon.

Keeping Gordon will be a big boost for Everton ahead of the new season. It could potentially be another tough year for the Toffees after they narrowly avoided relegation last term.

Gordon was one of the players who left the supporters with real belief. And with another moving on, it has become even more imperative that the starlet stays.

It would be a positive statement if they could now agree a new contract with the winger. He is a ‘sensational‘ prospect.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle can offer some pretty attractive moves to most. So Gordon wanting to commit his future to Everton is a big plus ahead of the new campaign.

But clearly, Everton are probably going to need to move forward from here if they are going to keep Gordon happy in the years to come.
