Mikel Arteta may have to see off competition from Everton if they hope to sign Lucas Paqueta, with Calciomercato reporting that the Toffees also want the Lyon midfielder.

Everton’s window may just be about to kick into another gear. Obviously, their pre-season performances have highlighted the need for more signings after a campaign in which they barely kept themselves in the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that they are in talks to sign Ruben Vinagre on loan. But it does seem that their financial situation is hurting their chances of landing some of their key targets.

So what Everton fans may not have expected this Tuesday was for the Toffees to be linked with a player who could cost as much as £55 million.

Reports have suggested that Arsenal are very keen on Paqueta. Edu has downplayed the likelihood of a deal. But he is an admirer of the Brazilian.

Previously, it was claimed that Lyon want £55 million for Paqueta. But they may accept as little as £34 million for the 24-year-old.

And Calciomercato reports that Everton also now want Paqueta, along with Arsenal.

Everton want Lucas Paqueta

It would be a huge surprise if Paqueta ended up at Goodison Park. Even at the lower price, it would be a massive outlay for the Toffees.

He is an ‘extraordinary‘ talent. And his arrival could transform Everton’s fortunes. It would be an amazing statement of intent given that the Toffees have been so reserved in the market so far.

But clearly, a move to Arsenal looks a lot more likely at this stage. Everton fans are unlikely to be holding their breath about this particular rumour however.
