Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter this afternoon that Everton have opened talks to sign Ruben Vinagre on loan with an option to buy – and the player has already accepted the move to Goodison Park.

Everton fans have been nervously awaiting the moment their club gets properly stuck into the transfer market. Perhaps that may have finally come.

Romano has suggested that the Toffees are in discussions with Sporting over a deal for the 23-year-old. The former Wolves starlet is closing in on moving to Goodison Park on loan with an option to buy.

Crucially, Vinagre has given the move the green light. And it seems that the only hurdle left to clear concerns the value of the option to buy.

Here is what Romano posted this afternoon…

Everton in talks to sign Ruben Vinagre

Vinagre could be a decent signing for Everton, considering that the deal appears to initially be a loan with an option.

The 23-year-old has actually already played for a number of clubs. He has only just joined Sporting permanently from Wolves after four years on the books at Molineux.

He is someone Everton’s director of football Kevin Thelwell obviously knows well from his time with Wolves. And he has got experience of playing in the Premier League.

Nuno Espírito Santo previously labelled Vinagre a ‘special‘ talent. That is obviously a positive sign should he arrive to compete with Vitaliy Mykolenko for the left wing-back spot on Merseyside.

Obviously, it is very important that Everton do not stop there. Their squad currently looks weak in certain areas. And the new season is looming.

Hopefully, Vinagre’s potentially imminent arrival is the first of many.
