Everton are planning to make a move to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto this summer should they manage to remain in the Premier League, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Neto has had a frustrating time at the Nou Camp. He has only managed to make three appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions. Perhaps unsurprisingly, he is considering his future.

Sport reports that he has wanted to leave Barca for some time now. And it is suggested that Everton want to sign Neto should they stay up.

Barcelona meanwhile, are open to letting the 32-year-old leave. They have set an asking price of £11.8 million, but they would also be open to a loan move which includes an option to buy.

Interestingly, Neto wants to move to be a number one elsewhere. And it is suggested that Everton want to upgrade on Jordan Pickford as he continues to struggle for form for the Toffees.

Neto loan could be a decent piece of business from Everton

Plenty of Everton fans may be wary of the links with Neto. The Toffees’ transfer policy has really cost them in the last few years. They require a major overhaul. That is the case whatever decision they find themselves in next season.

One of their big problems has been signing average players from big clubs. And some may look at Neto’s lack of game-time and worry that he is not any sort of upgrade on Pickford, despite his struggles.

Certainly, signing Neto permanently would be a risk. He has played 20 times in three years with Barcelona. He is clearly not going to be in the best form.

Having said that, a loan may not be a terrible option. Marcelino labelled him a ‘brilliant‘ goalkeeper in the past.

And if Barcelona are open to an option being agreed rather than an obligation, it makes sense that Everton are considering a move.
