Everton have reportedly tested Ajax’s resolve with a bid for Mohammed Kudus, a player also linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Independent, the Toffees have made an offer of ‘£15m-plus’ for the Ghana international and Spurs scouting target.

Since then, speculation linking Spurs and the 22-year-old petered out, with Everton seemingly becoming frontrunners.

Earlier this week, the Toffees were seemingly boosted by Kudus’ apparent desire to join the Goodison Park outfit.

However, Ajax have reportedly rejected Everton’s bid and are adamant Kudus is not for sale this summer.

Not only do the Dutch champions not want to lose any more players this summer, but they are also excited about the 22-year-old’s potential.

Apparently, Ajax ‘firmly believe he will develop into one of the best midfielders in the world’.

In terms of financials, they feel Kudus will be worth much more than that £15m fee – even allowing for add-ons – after the World Cup.

Kudus is ‘certain’ to go with Ghana to Qatar in November, added the report.

Ajax reportedly did not want to sell Antony this week. However, they felt Manchester United’s offer of €100m (£86m) was just too good to turn down.

“Quite a bit” like Frenkie de Jong

Everton have made two new midfield additions this summer – Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye.

However, Kudus would’ve been a great shout for the Toffees (or indeed Tottenham Hotspur).

Predominantly a central midfielder, Kudus can fill in pretty much anywhere between the number six and ten positions.

Erik ten Hag has previously described his former player at the Amsterdam outfit as an “incredible talent“.

And Ajax’s Daley Blind has compared his club teammate to Barcelona and Netherlands ace Frenkie de Jong.

“He can play a man and make a gear,” Blind told Ajax TV in 2020, via Football Ghana.

“He is quite a bit like Frenkie in that respect.

“You can just see that he has a lot of quality. I think he will certainly help us on our way. He is a good player.”
