Report: Everton now think they’re going to be able to sign 22-year-old who ‘glides’ past opposition players

Everton are now stepping up their attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, with 90 Min reporting that the Blues are growing in confidence over a deal for the Wolverhampton Wanderers man.

The Toffees lost their talisman Richarlison to Spurs in recent weeks in a deal worth up to £60 million (BBC). And now it seems Frank Lampard is looking to invest the money into the squad.

90 Min reports that the Merseyside club had a bid for the 22-year-old rejected this week. Nevertheless, they are becoming ‘increasingly confident’ they can tie up a deal for the Englishman.

Gibbs-White spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and impressed at the Bramall Lane. The attacking midfielder scored 12 goals and put up 10 assists for the Blades in all competitions.

The youngster was a big reason behind their push into the play-offs, despite losing to Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals and missing out on promotion.

Gibbs-White’s versatility will be a plus for Frank Lampard as he played off the right and through the middle for the Championship outfit last campaign. The Blues boss will be looking for an ideal replacement for Richarlison, who was also a versatile player at Goodison Park.

And with recent reports suggesting that the players preference is to join Everton, it seems Lampard may get his man.

The Toffees will definitely have to up their bid however, as the The Telegraph reported on Monday that they had seen a bid of over £20 million for the midfielder rejected.

When Gibbs-White initially joined the Blades on loan last September, Blades man Chris Basham said the youngster was a ‘breath of fresh air’ and that he ‘glides’ past players.

TBR’s View: Lampard could be the perfect man to get the best out of Gibbs-White

The England U21 International had a great season at Bramall Lane but had struggled to stake a claim for a starting place at Wolves beforehand.

Lampard has a great track-record of developing young players after his stints at Chelsea and Derby County, so this could be the ideal move for the starlet.

However, it will boil down to how much Everton are willing to pay for Gibbs-White after they reportedly had a sizeable bid rejected. But there will definitely be starting places up for grabs at Goodison Park as Lampard looks to re-shape his squad.
