Report: Everton now confident they can sign 'top' PL player in next few days, they're really pushing now

Everton are confident they can sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Leander Dendoncker before deadline day.

The Sun reports that Everton have had an £8.5m bid for the Belgian rejected.

However, they believe that Everton are still confident they can sign Dendoncker in the next few days.

Frank Lampard is hoping to bolster his options in midfielder before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Dendoncker is one of a number of players Everton want to sign a number of players in the next few days, and have already been linked with him this summer.

The Toffees have had a poor start to the season, failing to win any of their first four matches.

Former midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been a long-term midfield target this summer, and a deal could finally be completed soon.

Everton have already added Amadou Onana to their squad this summer.

However, Lampard is clearly not happy with his options in the middle.

Everton confident on Dendoncker signing

Described by current manager Bruno Lage as a ‘top player’, the 27-year-old has already lost his place in Wolves’ starting line-up.

Lage has brought in Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes to strengthen Wolves’ midfield, and this could force Dendoncker to leave the club in search of first-team football.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is a fan of Dendoncker, who has been a regular in the national team.

Everton may be confident they can sign Dendoncker if they can offer him more first-team minutes as he looks to go to the World Cup.

A versatile player, Dendoncker can player as a defensive or attacking midfielder, or even fill in as part of a three-man defence.

He would certainly give Lampard more quality to choose from, and as a defensively-minded player with an eye for a pass, would link up well with Everton’s forwards.
