Report: Everton make Kalidou Koulibaly bid
Everton have now made a first bid for Kalidou Koulibaly in the last few hours, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato.
Rafa Benitez is still awaiting his first signing following his appointment at Goodison Park.
But it did appear that he was keen for Marcel Brands to pursue a familiar face.
It was reported at the weekend that the Spaniard had asked the Everton hierarchy to make Koulibaly a top target.
Benitez signed the Senegal international while in charge of Napoli. And according to 90min, the centre-back will be available for just £35 million this summer.
Calciomercato is now claiming that Everton have made an offer for Koulibaly in the last few hours.
It remains to be seen how much the Premier League side have offered for Koulibaly. And it is not yet clear whether the Serie A outfit have any intention of accepting Everton’s bid.
Of course, it seems more than likely that the Toffees have probably come up short if it is the first offer. They may as well try their luck at a lower price initially.
Brilliant step from Everton if Koulibaly bid leads to deal
Koulibaly has long been considered one of the best defenders in the world. As previous reports noted, he was once valued at £100 million.
He is now 30. So he may only have a short time left at his peak. Even so, he has the potential to be an amazing signing.
It would be a huge statement from Everton. And it would seemingly help Benitez start to win supporters round.
So it will be fascinating to see where the speculation goes from here.
