Report: Everton hope to sign £17.5m striker who scored twice at the World Cup, but he wants to join Man United

Everton have less than two weeks to add to their squad in the January transfer window.

Time is very much running out for Frank Lampard to improve his team, with the Toffees sitting in the relegation zone.

A report from German outlet Bild suggests they’re looking to the Bundesliga to bring in a forward.

One of Everton’s biggest problems this season has been scoring goals.

Lampard’s side have looked solid at the back at times, but their top scorer only has three goals this campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has once again been plagued with injury issues.

The 25-year-old has managed to make just nine league appearances, and only scored once.

New signing Neal Maupay is in a similar boat, and hasn’t scored since September.

Maupay has suggested he could play alongside Calvert-Lewin, but that would mean a complete change in system from Lampard.

Bild now report that Everton want to sign Werder Bremen striker Niclas Fullkrug.

The intimidating centre-forward has had arguably the best 12 months of his career in Germany.

It may take some convincing for Everton to drag him into a relegation battle.

Everton want to sign Fullkrug

The report states that Everton are among a number of German clubs interested in Fullkrug.

It has been said that an offer of €20m [£17.5m] would make Werder Bremen think about selling him.

Bild believe money shouldn’t be an issue for Everton but getting Fullkrug to agree to a deal might be.

They believe that, ‘he sees himself at a top club like Manchester United, for example’.

Fullkrug was one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga last season, scoring 19 goals and providing 6 assists.

He’s already reached double figures this campaign after just 14 matches.

His form was so good, that he forced his way into the Germany squad for the World Cup.

He netted twice in Qatar, but couldn’t stop his side crashing out in the group stages.

It’s no surprise that Everton want to sign Fullkrug this month, he’s an in-form striker in a similar mould to Calvert-Lewin.

Persuading him that a move to Goodison Park is the best next step in his career may prove tricky.
