Report: Everton have held talks with club amid Toffees interest in 25-year-old captain

Everton have held talks with PSV Eindhoven regarding a potential move for Denzel Dumfries, according to a report from 90min.

Dumfries established himself as one of the most exciting full-backs in Europe this summer. The 25-year-old was superb for the Netherlands before their surprise exit in the last 16.

Only Georginio Wijnaldum scored more goals for Oranje than the right-back at Euro 2020. And it now appears that he could soon be on his way to the Premier League.

According to 90min, talks have been held between Everton and PSV. It is noted that he is likely to be a cheaper target than Max Aarons, who could cost in excess of £25 million.

The report notes that the Toffees are optimistic about Dumfries’ ability to adapt to the Premier League.

Euro 2020 has probably done Everton few favours amid Dumfries talks reports

Everton have been linked with Dumfries for a little while. In fact, it was claimed ahead of the tournament that the Toffees were keen.

In that report, it was stated that £13 million would be enough to get a deal done.

That would have been a real coup. Dumfries is an incredibly aggressive right-back, who loves bursting forward and putting crosses into the box.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the ranks, that could be a frightening prospect.

So perhaps it is fair to say that Euro 2020 has probably done Marcel Brands few favours.

His stock has risen this summer. PSV Eindhoven would be crazy to let him go for anything like £13 million.

Meanwhile, more admirers are surely joining the queue. Full-backs are seemingly becoming more and more important for most sides.

And Dumfries is threatening to be one of the best.

It is a good sign that Everton have opened talks. But they may not want to rest on their laurels if they are really keen to bring him to Goodison Park.
