Report: Everton eye PSV Eindhoven captain Denzel Dumfries, £13m needed

Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad have claimed that PSV Eindhoven captain Denzel Dumfries is a target for Everton this summer. The right-back has enjoyed three brilliant years since joining PSV, and has even become the club’s captain. His form for second-placed PSV has not gone unnoticed.

Dumfries, 25, joined PSV from Heerenveen in 2018 and has since gone on to play 124 times in all competitions. What has caught the eye is his amount of goals and assists from right-back – scoring 16 and creating 20 for PSV. During 20-21, he had a hand in 13 goals.

Everton need a right-back. Seamus Coleman has seemingly past his peak at Everton, while Jonjoe Kenny’s future looks in doubt after a loan at Celtic. Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey are preferred in the middle of the defence. So, Dumfries could be the ideal signing – but he will be at Euro 2020.

Dumfries would be a brilliant Everton signing, for just £13m…

It does depend what the incoming manager wants. But Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be the front runner for the job – and he loves playing with a back three. Having such an attacking right-back in Dumfries would suit Santo, given that Dumfries is probably not defensive enough in a back four.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

It is a Santo signing. Everton would do very well to beat value for money when it comes to signing a right-back of Dumfries’ quality for £13million. But if the new manager wants to play four at the back, then Everton need to go after a more-defensive defender. A back three, and Dumfries is perfect.
