'Has tried really hard': Son says £46m Tottenham player has put in so much effort behind the scenes

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has praised Cristian Romero for the effort he’s been putting in behind the scenes at Tottenham.

The Argentina international joined Spurs last season from Atalanta on an initial loan deal, and he has been a huge success story at N17.

According to The Guardian, Tottenham have the option to make the Romero deal permanent for €55m (around £46m).

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

The 23-year-old spent some time on the sidelines with a hamstring injury this season, but returned to action in February.

Since then, Romero has truly cemented his place in the Spurs starting XI and has been impressive for Antonio Conte’s side.

On Sunday, the summer signing delivered arguably his finest performance for Tottenham in the 3-1 win over Leicester.

Romero made a series of crucial challenges and even swept up behind his defensive teammates when needed.

One crunching challenge he made in the Leicester half set Tottenham away for Son’s goal.

“This changes everything”

Speaking after the game, the Spurs attacker revealed how well Romero has adapted behind the scenes.

Son spoke highly of the defender’s desire to learn the language and speak to everyone in the squad.

“It’s fresh energy every time new players come in,” football.london quotes Son as saying.

“The first time is not the best feeling because it’s a weird feeling, we don’t know each other, but now we understand each other.

“Cuti has tried really hard, wanting to speak to everyone, so this brings us all more and more closer and this changes everything.”

“Super happy”

In April, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham will “100 percent” sign Romero and Dejan Kulusevski permanently.

The transfer guru, speaking on his YouTube channel, also said Antonio Conte is “super happy” with the two players.

Romano expects Spurs to pay up to 85m euros (around £72m) for them, and stresses they’d be happy to do so.

“(Tottenham) are 100 percent convinced they signed a fantastic centre-back for the present and the future,” he said.

“Then there is Dejan Kulusevski. His numbers have been incredible.

“Let’s see what happens with Antonio Conte but he’s super happy with them.”
