Report: Erik Ten Hag is a big fan of ‘incredible’ £30m striker who Mikel Arteta wants at Arsenal
The Gunners look set to dip into the market in January for a new striker after Gabriel Jesus picked up an injury at the World Cup.
Jesus looks set to be sidelined for around three months and Arsenal only have Eddie Nketiah as a back-up option to the Brazilian at the moment.
Of course, Ten Hag will also be on the lookout for a new striker after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club last month. And the Dutchman is apparently a massive fan of the player who replaced Ronaldo in Portugal’s side during the World Cup.
Ten Hag is a big fan of Ramos
The Athletic reports that Ten Hag is prioritising the signing of a new striker due to doubts over Anthony Martial’s injury record.
The former Ajax boss likes Ramos but Benfica currently have no desire to cash in on the 21-year-old after selling Darwin Nunez to Liverpool over the summer.
Ramos replaced Ronaldo in Portugal’s side in Qatar and scored a brilliant hat-trick in the last-16. The youngster has also been in lethal goal scoring form for Benfica in the Champions League and Primeira Liga.
He’s bagged 14 goals and provided six assists in just 21 appearances for Roger Schmidt’s men this season, helping Benfica top their Champions League group over the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in the process.
The Portuguese star will undoubtedly attract plenty of interest after his displays in Qatar and the Champions League this season.
Arsenal will certainly need to bolster their attacking options in January after Jesus’ injury but they are seemingly prioritising the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk.
David Ornstein has told HaytersTV that the Gunners are currently in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk and the player’s representatives.
United are also weighing up their options at the moment and have been heavily linked with another reported Arsenal target in PSV’s Cody Gakpo.
Back in August, 90 Min reported that the Portuguese outfit value Ramos at around £30 million. But they will undoubtedly demand more off the back of his performances this season and his release clause stands at around £103 million.
While Ramos would be a brilliant signing for both sides, it doesn’t seem likely that Benfica would be willing to sell their star striker in January. The club have already received a huge fee for Nunez over the summer and currently sit top of the Portuguese league.
Schmidt’s men also have a last-16 clash with Club Brugge to look forward to, putting them in a strong position to keep hold of their best players until next summer at the earliest.
