Report: English club now hoping to get 'outstanding' prospect out of Tottenham for just £300k
Tottenham prospect Kion Etete could cost £300,000 this summer amid interest from Portsmouth and Championship clubs.
The News claim that Pompey are hoping that because the talented forward has just a year left to run on his contract, he will not cost the earth.
Portsmouth are in League One and concerned that interest from higher up could turn the frontman’s head.
But they hope that the offer of more regular football could convince him to opt for a move to the third tier on a permanent basis.
Portsmouth want Etete who could cost £300k
The striker spent time at that level on loan at Cheltenham and then the tier below as well at Northampton last season, where he impressed, most notably on his ‘outstanding‘ Cobblers debut.
Pompey boss Danny Cowley has made landing the 20-year-old a transfer priority this summer, with the window now open.
Tottenham have a decision to make on Etete with a year left on his deal, because if he does not sign a new contract, loaning him out would effectively end their chances of getting any money in for him.
Tottenham still need a Harry Kane backup, but Etete is not at that level just yet.
There is plenty still to do if he is to rise up the ranks, and Troy Parrott looks ahead of him on that score anyway.
A Championship loan would be great for him to push himself but only if he plays and he has a decision to make between getting more gametime and trying to play at the highest level possible.
