Kion Etete recently joined Northampton Town on loan from Tottenham. Last night he earned plenty of plaudits for a breathtaking debut performance in the Carabao Cup.

The teenager started for Cobblers as they travelled to face Coventry City of the Championship.

Mark Robins saw his side take an early lead through Tyler Walker. If they thought they’d be in for an easy night, Etete had other ideas.

The on-loan Tottenham man scored two wonderful goals and gave the Coventry defenders a nightmare during a pulsating performance.

His performance was so good that the Northampton Chronicle gave him some serious praise.

They awarded the Tottenham-owned starlet a 9.5/10 rating and had some high praise for the player.

The publication claimed: “Debuts do not get much better. Outstanding all-round display. Bullied and bossed Coventry’s defence all night long, just too strong and too powerful. Scored two very different goals, a brilliant solo effort and a scrappy close-range finish. Cobblers will hope this is a sign of things to come.”

Future star: Future looks bright for Etete; can he star for Tottenham?

Interestingly this performance comes at a time when Tottenham don’t have much in the way of backup to Harry Kane.

Of course, Etete still has a lot to learn but this was a promising performance and one which offers vast potential.

The 19-year-old has scored for fun for the club’s under-18 and under-23 ranks since heading south from the Notts County youth ranks.

A game against Championship opposition might have proved a bridge too far but he shone considerably.

The challenge for Etete is to play regular football and score plenty of goals during the 2021/22 campaign.

If he does that, then who knows, he might jus tbe handed a chance to prove himself to Nuno Espirito Santo next season.
