Report: English club eye Tottenham player that Pochettino called ‘amazing’ in 2019

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is reportedly being eyed by Premier League club Aston Villa.

According to the Telegraph, English rivals Villa are monitoring the Spurs 25-year-old as a possible target this summer.

This comes after the Hackney Gazette, as quoted by The Boot Room, reported at the start of the month that Winks looks set to leave Spurs.

He’s been with the north London club’s academy from a young age, working his way up through various age groups.

Winks has made 173 senior appearances for his boyhood club, but perhaps he’s made his last one.

The £91,000-a-week man only played 30 games across all competitions last season. However, it’s worth noting a new manager, whoever that will be, is arriving for the new campaign.

Intriguingly, ex-Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino called him “amazing” after a match back in 2019.

The central midfielder played regularly under Pochettino, but the same can’t be said for his time with Jose Mourinho.

Harry Winks leaving Tottenham makes sense, Villa great option

It feels like Winks’ time at Spurs is coming to a natural end, so he should be planning where he’ll be next season.

He does still have three years remaining on his Spurs deal, but rumours suggest potential interest and it’s hard to picture him becoming a nailed-on starter again.

Villa, who look ambitious under their manager Dean Smith, could be perfect for him.

He’s an extremely technical midfielder that is great on the ball and it would be no surprise to see him make a name for himself at Villa Park.

This is someone with 10 caps for England, so it would be foolish to write him off.
