The future of Leeds United winger Dan James is one of the biggest talking points of deadline day this summer.

The Welsh international has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the last few days.

The Daily Mail (1/9 11:59am) have now provided an update on his future.

Their report suggests that James may be allowed to leave Elland Road if Leeds can sign Bamba Dieng.

The 22-year-old Marseille forward has already said he wants to leave the French club this summer.

He’s been linked with several Premier League sides, and the Daily Mail believe Leeds are latest to take an interest.

James could be allowed to leave Leeds

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch’s latest update on James suggested a move was unlikely on Tuesday: “I like Dan.

“He’s been a big part of what we’ve done here.

“Before I came and since I’ve been here.

“I don’t anticipate big movements in the group, but we have to just see what happens in the next 24 hours.”

James’ situation at Leeds has clearly changed in the last few hours, and this could benefit Tottenham.

Antonio Conte’s side have been linked with several wide players in recent days.

Wolves’ Adama Traore is well admired at Tottenham, and fits a similar profile to James.

Conte’s use of two wing-backs and wide players who can link up with Harry Kane makes them a valuable position in his system.

James’ ‘electric’ pace and work rate mean he fits into Conte’s system well.

Conte’s only concern may be his lack of end product.

Tottenham could now be relying on Leeds to do some business before making another approach.

However, James now being allowed to leave Leeds could be a boost for his suitors.
