Arsenal transfer chief, Edu Gaspar, is already making contingency plans should the Gunners be priced out of a move for Leicester star, James Maddison.
Maddison has emerged at the top of the pile in terms of Arsenal transfer targets this summer. Desperate for a creative midfielder, the Gunners are said to be keen to see a deal for Maddison get done.
However, a £60m fee is proving to be a sticking point for the Gunners, although reports have claimed Maddison is keen on making the move.

And Football.London have claimed that Edu has already starting identifying cheaper and alternative options to Maddison. One of those options could be Martin Odegaard, who is facing an uncertain future in Madrid.
The Norwegian spent time with the Gunners last term. He is said to have impressed Mikel Arteta, who would take him back in a heartbeat.
Other names Edu might have identified remain a mystery. Manuel Locatelli was one name linked earlier in the summer.
Edu getting his act together?
The Arsenal fans are becoming increasingly frustrated over their summer transfer business. Or lack of it, maybe.
The promises of a huge summer overhaul just don’t seem to have happened at all. And while the likes of Lokonga and Tavares have arrived, as has Ben White, more was expected this summer.
It seems that Maddison is the one they want. But Edu, as he should, is obviously putting other plans in place as well. These next few weeks will be the proof in the pudding for Edu and Arteta.
If the Gunners don’t land players, then the Arsenal fans will be up in arms once again.
