Report: Eddie Nketiah hasn't accepted Arsenal contract

Eddie Nketiah looks to have moved a step closer to the Arsenal exit, with The Athletic reporting that a contract offer made to the striker has not been accepted.

Nketiah’s future has looked to be up in the air for some time. The 22-year-old only played a peripheral role for the Gunners last season.

He made just four starts in the Premier League, with a further 13 appearances coming from the bench. And he scored twice in the top flight.

They were two strikes that won Arsenal three points – across games against West Ham and Fulham. But he arguably did not do enough to prove a real point to Mikel Arteta.

Nketiah – who earns £45,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is heading into the final year of his contract at the Emirates. And it seemed that he may well be on the move this summer.

He had been linked with Watford earlier in the transfer window. Meanwhile, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also admirers.

And perhaps a move away has now become a little more likely.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have offered Nketiah a new contract to protect his value.

And interestingly, it is claimed that the offer has not been accepted by the forward.

It must be noted that the report does not make it clear that it has been rejected. But of course, that may well be the case with the offer not accepted.

Arsenal and Eddie Nketiah need to agree exit

Unfortunately, it looks to be best for all concerned if Nketiah seals a move away this summer.

It appears that he is unlikely to become a first-team regular at the Emirates.

And obviously, the Gunners will not want to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

So Arsenal will be hoping that Nketiah will attract some reasonable bids during the remaining weeks of the window.
