Report: Declan Rice will stay at West Ham this summer; no desire to quit

Declan Rice will stay at West Ham this summer, with the Sunday Mirror (22/5; page 78) reporting that he has no desire to leave the London Stadium in the upcoming window.

Rice’s future is looking uncertain after he rejected the chance to sign a new contract. Of course, he has established himself as one of the world’s best holding midfielders around right now.

Manchester United and Chelsea both want Rice. Meanwhile, it has previously been suggested that Liverpool could also make a move for the 23-year-old.

West Ham are in a strong position. His current contract expires in 2024 and the club have the option to extend his terms by a further year. So it is likely to be another three years before he is available on a free transfer.

So his admirers may be hoping that Rice attempts to force through a move. But they look set to be disappointed on that front too.

The Sunday Mirror (22/5; page 78) reports that there is a growing feeling that Rice is on the same page as the West Ham hierarchy that he will not leave this summer. And he apparently has no desire to leave in the coming months.

Rice has arguably handled himself brilliantly throughout all of the speculation over his future. He is destined for the top and is already under contract for a long time.

So you can understand his stance. And he has not let the situation affect his performances in the slightest.

He has not made life difficult for West Ham. And it seems that he is ready to put a lot of speculation to bed before the summer window even arrives.

That will make life so much easier for David Moyes as he looks to build on two amazing years.

There are likely to be some tough conversations ahead. But Rice is seemingly ready to put them on the back-burner for now.
