Report: Crystal Palace set sights on £30k-a-week English midfielder

Crystal Palace have reportedly set their sights on Will Hughes at newly-promoted Premier League club Watford.

According to Football London, Palace are monitoring the 26-year-old midfielder because of his current situation at Vicarage Road.

It is understood the £30,000-a-week star has been demoted to the Under-23s due to the fact there is a contract stand-off between club and player. The left-footed Englishman has turned down a contract offer and has one year left on his deal.

The report adds Hughes is “likely” to leave during this summer’s window because of the contract stalemate.

Palace, who have been very busy this summer, are building a new-look squad for manager Patrick Vieira.

The Eagles have appointed Premier League legends Vieira as their boss for the new season, so it’s great to see he’s receiving help in the transfer market.

Will Hughes a decent option for Crystal Palace

Hughes, 26, would be a shrewd addition for Palace.

The central midfielder helped Watford gain promotion last season, but he’s got top-flight experience. He’s a former England Under-21 international that has played 77 Premier League games in his career.

Hughes is an extremely technical midfielder that is neat in possession, a great passer, as well as aggressive in his defensive work.

He would definitely help fill out a squad that is getting better.
