Lewis Bate made his Leeds United debut yesterday in a pre-season game against Fleetwood Town – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were encouraged with what they saw.

Bate, 18, has moved to Elland Road this summer on a permanent basis from Premier League rivals Chelsea. He’s a talented English midfielder that will initially join the Whites Under-23s team, but he’s tipped to have a huge future.

He came off the bench during Friday night’s friendly against League One opposition Fleetwood.

Leeds, who were stacked with players from the Under-23s, lost the match 2-1. However, travelling supporters got to see a bullet header from their defender Charlie Cresswell. Also, Bate got his first minutes for the Yorkshire club.

Unfortunately, the ex-Chelsea academy star gave away a penalty on the hour mark after coming on as a second-half substitute.

The teenager showed great character to bounce back from his mistake though, as he grew into the contest. He showed plenty of signs on the ball as to why people rate him. The left-footer saw the goalkeeper deny what would have been a lovely assist.

Lewis Bate can do a Robin Koch at Leeds

If you remember the opening day of last season, last summer’s signing Robin Koch had a chaotic debut for the club against Liverpool. But, showed throughout the campaign what an asset he is.

Bate will be angry over a sloppy tackle to give away a penalty, but it’s a pre-season game that won’t have any impact on his Leeds career.

In fact, a selection of Whites supporters on social media believe he could be a super player for them moving forward.
