Report: Crystal Palace could turn to Tottenham-linked coach as Roy Hodgson replacement
Crystal Palace could be about to make a move for Tottenham-linked manager, Paulo Fonseca, as they look to replace Roy Hodgson.
The Eagles – like Spurs – have yet to sort out who their new manager will be.
The job of replacing Hodgson is proving trickier than expected for Steve Parish, who saw a move for Lucien Favre fall through last week.
But Parish could be about to make a move for Fonseca. The former Roma and Shakthar Donetsk manager looked all set to join Tottenham a few weeks back. However, his move fell down at the last minute.
Corriere dello Sport have now claimed that Palace have their eye on Fonseca, who is also attracting Fiorentina.
The 48-year-old would represent a move into the European market once again for Parish and Palace. However, there’ll be those who are wary, given the nightmare the club had in appointing Frank De Boer previously.
Fonseca has enjoyed success in his career, though. He wont three titles with Shakthar, and led Roma to fifth in his first season in charge there.
A move to England is clearly appealing for Fonseca, given his talks with Spurs. But whether a switch to Selhurst Park has the same draw, remains to be seen.
Palace to get Fonseca? What a nightmare for Tottenham if true
You can just picture the Spurs fans now if Fonseca goes to Palace and does well. There’d be an absolute meltdown.
Palace are clearly showing some ambition here though. Fonseca is now regarded as a big name, especially since the Tottenham saga.
But whether he sees Palace as a lure is another matter. Without being disrespectul, he’d be battling for Europe with Tottenham or Fiorentina.
With Palace, he’d be down at the bottom and simply tasked with just avoiding relegation again. That in itself might put him off. But you can’t blame Parish for trying here. It’s an admirable and bold move.
