Report: Conte believes Sessegnon could catch fire at Tottenham
Antonio Conte knows that Ryan Sessegnon is a player who could really catch fire at Tottenham Hotspur should he manage to now stay fit, according to a report from The Athletic.
Whisper it quietly, but the early signs suggest that Sessegnon is one player whose Tottenham career could be transformed by the arrival of Conte.
Before that, it had been a real struggle for the 21-year-old. He failed to establish himself in the side previously. And he spent the large majority of last season out on loan with Hoffenheim.
He was not someone Nuno Espírito Santo used a lot. And the signs looked to be ominous when Sessegnon was taken off inside half an hour when Tottenham were beaten by Wolves recently.
However, the youngster has responded superbly since that day. He was excellent in the stunning win against Manchester City. Conte described his performance as ‘fantastic‘.
And his performance in the victory at Leeds at the weekend showcased just how dangerous he could be.
His form has perhaps been a pleasant surprise to many. However, Conte is not one who was taken aback, it seems.
The Athletic reports that the Italian feels that Sessegnon is a player who could really catch fire. And he worked him hard in training following his appointment.
Interestingly, he wanted to push him, but in a way that he ensured that he remained fit for the coming months. It would now appear that that strategy is really paying off.
Conte appointment set to be a pivotal moment for Sessegnon at Tottenham
Obviously, it is still early stages for Sessegnon under Conte. And he still needs to really face the challenge of keeping Sergio Reguilón out of the side.
But it does seem that Conte’s appointment could be a pivotal moment in Sessegnon’s Spurs career.
In fact, it was reported this week that he has now been offered a new contract. And he is one player Tottenham fans will be extremely excited about over the coming months.
