Antonio Conte has always been an admirer of N’Golo Kante amid reports Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign the Chelsea midfielder, according to a report from Calciomercato.

Kante’s future at Stamford Bridge is looking incredibly uncertain. He is out of contract with the Blues at the end of the season. And it is fair to say that injuries have prevented him being the same player who was one of the best midfielders in the world for a few years.

There is a chance that he could stay in the Premier League next year. Recent reports from Foot Mercato claimed that Kante wants to stay in London should he leave Chelsea. And thus, he had been offered to Arsenal and Tottenham.

Calciomercato is now reporting that the Gunners and Spurs do indeed want Kante. They face a battle with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus for the Frenchman.

But the report adds that Conte has always been an admirer of the 31-year-old. Of course, the pair worked together during the Italian’s tenure at Chelsea.

It is probably not a huge surprise that Conte remains an admirer of Kante. His arrival in 2016 appeared to be pivotal in helping Chelsea win the Premier League title the following year.

Kante won back-to-back titles on that occasion, having starred for Leicester City in their stunning triumph.

Conte said that he was ‘amazing‘ at that time for Chelsea. And he may feel that a free transfer makes a move a gamble worth taking for Tottenham.

Kante has not been at his best for some time. Unfortunately, he has found it difficult enough to stay fit in more recent times. But he still has plenty to offer.

Conte was clearly keen to improve the depth within the Tottenham ranks over the summer. And you would imagine that Fabio Paratici will, once again, be on the lookout for potential bargains in the market.

Perhaps they view a move for Kante as a deal which could become a potential masterstroke.
