Report: Club now want to sell £17m Tottenham & Newcastle target to a Premier League side
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan want to sell Stefan de Vrij to a Premier League side, with Tottenham and Newcastle interested.
What’s the story?
Well, it was said that Antonio Conte is keen on a reunion with the £17m man, who helped him guide Inter Milan to the Serie A title in 2021.
Elsewhere, Newcastle were believed to be ready to double De Vrij’s salary if he moved to Tyneside.
Calciomercato state that Inter Milan do not want to suffer a repeat of the situation involving Ivan Perisic, who was able to run his contract down at the San Siro before joining Spurs on a free transfer.
The Italian news outlet specifically states that the Nerazzurri want to send the Netherlands international to the Premier League, as that is where they are likely to receive the most money for him.
With Paris Saint-Germain eyeing a move for De Vrij’s partner, Milan Skriniar, Inter Milan have already shortlisted Gleison Bremer and Nikola Milenkovic as potential replacements.
By all accounts, they are ready to part ways with De Vrij, which should interest Conte and Eddie Howe.
In what could be his final season with Inter Milan, the 30-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle may have free run with Tottenham occupied
In our view, Newcastle could have a free run at signing De Vrij if they move quickly.
According to sources in Spain, Tottenham are closing in on a loan deal for Clement Lenglet, and the move could even be announced as soon as Tuesday.
The news about De Vrij could potentially make Conte change his mind, but while he assesses his options, Howe could steal in and make Inter Milan an irresistible offer.
Only time will tell where the Dutchman ends up, but it seems he is likely to be moving to England.
