Report: Tottenham reach agreement with £32m man, deal could be announced on Tuesday

According to several sources in Spain, Tottenham are on the verge of signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona.

What’s the story?

Well, Mundo Deportivo believe the £31.7m man has received permission from Barcelona to finalise the move, and he has already travelled to London to do just that.

Elsewhere in Spain, SPORT even claim that the deal could be announced on Tuesday, with Lenglet now set to undergo a medical with Tottenham.

The France international is expected to join Spurs on an initial season-long loan, where Antonio Conte will hold an option to buy the 27-year-old if he impresses in the Premier League.

It comes after Lenglet struggled to make an impact following Xavi’s arrival at the Camp Nou in November – in total, he made just seven starts in La Liga.

Nevertheless, he has won 15 caps for France, and Barcelona – as aforesaid – spent £31.7m to secure his signature, so he is clearly a talented player who has simply struggled to perform in Catalonia.

Clement Lenglet should fit in well at Tottenham

In our view, the fact Conte uses a three-man centre-back system should help Lenglet.

He struggled in a two-man setup at Barcelona, although the presence of Cristian Romero and Eric Dier should help him improve in north London, as well as the protection provided by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of him.

Lenglet is also a fine long-range passer of the ball, which Spurs will surely look to use as an outlet to get the likes of Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski on the front foot.

There may be concerns over his ability to defend, although we firmly believe a coach like Conte will iron out any creases in that side of his game.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as it seems the deal should be completed shortly.
