Report: Club now getting ready to sell their 'prolific' striker, with Newcastle preparing £25m bid for him

Benfica are ready to sell Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos, and have already started work on his replacement.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle are preparing a £25m bid for the Portugal under-21 international, but face some competition for his signature.

The report suggests that Paris Saint-Germain are among a number of other clubs across Europe who have held talks with Benfica over Ramos.

Eddie Howe’s side will want to avoid a repeat of their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike, who after considering signing for the Toon, ended up moving to the French champions.

Newcastle fans got to see a glimpse of Ramos’ potential in pre-season, with the young forward scoring against Newcastle in Benfica 3-2 win last month.

Benfica ready to sell Newcastle target Ramos

The admission from Benfica that they’re willing to let Ramos go this summer should make Newcastle’s pursuit of the striker slightly easier.

Newcastle have struggled in negotiations with several clubs this summer over asking prices for some of their targets.

Their pursuit of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes has been hampered by Leicester’s unwillingness to negotiate,

New sporting director Dan Ashworth has taken over negotiations with Everton for Anthony Gordon, but Frank Lampard’s side are equally unlikely to let their new number ten leave.

The ‘incredibly prolific’ Ramos has already been in fine form this season, scoring a hat-trick against FC Midtyjlland in Benfica’s Champions League qualifier.

He recorded two assists in their opening league game last weekend, and it will be interesting to see if he’s involved in tonight’s game against Casa Pia.

The Northern Echo believe Howe wants two more signings before the window closes, and he’ll be hoping Ramos might be one of those players to improve his attacking options.
