Report: Club hope Jorge Mendes will set up loan deal for 23-year-old Arsenal and Spurs want
Arsenal and Spurs could have to see off competition from Barcelona if they hope to sign Renato Sanches, with Spanish outlet AS reporting that the Catalan giants want the Portuguese and could sign him on an initial loan.
Sanches’ stock is extremely high once again. The 23-year-old helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title last year.
And he followed that with an impressive showing at Euro 2020 with Portugal.
He has now been linked with a host of clubs. 90min reported in June that the Gunners want the midfielder.
They also suggested that contact had been made.
More recently, Le 10 Sport suggested that Tottenham have joined the race.
That report noted that Barcelona were showing the most interest in Sanches. However, it was claimed that they were in no position to finance a deal.
But it appears that the situation may have now changed.
According to AS, Sanches could end up moving to the Nou Camp on a season-long loan. That deal would include a mandatory purchase option.
It is claimed that such a deal would allow Barca time to recover from their current financial problems.
AS adds that Sanches would be open to moving to Catalonia.
Blow for Arsenal and Spurs if Sanches seals Barcelona loan
Sanches looks to have really rebuilt his career in the last few years. There was a time when it appeared that he was destined to be remembered as another young player who never close to realising his potential.
So it will be a blow for the likes of Arsenal and Spurs to miss out.
Both clubs look to have their sights set on significant overhauls this summer.
So fans of both clubs will likely hope that Barcelona fail to get a loan deal over the line in the coming weeks.
