Chelsea and Arsenal have emerged as transfer competitors for a number of players in the January transfer window.

The Blues appear to have won one battle over the Gunners, with Joao Felix reportedly closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Arsenal may have not necessarily lost out. The Gunners apparently didn’t feel Felix was worth the hefty loan fee.

Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Now, it looks as though the Blues are trying to steal a march on a third player apparently on the Gunners’ radar.

The player in question is Borussia Monchengladbach striker and France international Marcus Thuram.

The 25-year-old’s contract expires in summer, meaning clubs could potentially pick him up for a bargain fee.

According to 90Min, Chelsea have spoken to Thuram’s representatives over a potential January move.

Gladbach have reportedly welcomed the West Londoners’ interest as they look to get something for their player.

However, in a boost for Arsenal, Thuram apparently wants to explore all his options before making a decision.

This could include making a move in the summer, once his contract runs out, instead of January.

Chelsea and Arsenal could both do with bolstering their attacking ranks this month.

The Blues are reported to have sealed a loan move for Joao Felix, so one new attacking recruit seems to be on the way.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have lacked a bit of cutting edge since the world-class Gabriel Jesus ended up injured.

Thuram is a ‘world-class‘ attacker who can play in a variety of positions in the front line.

This would make him a versatile and high-quality asset for Mikel Arteta.

However, with Arsenal seemingly focusing all their efforts on Mudryk, it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will move for others.

And with Chelsea racing ahead of Arsenal on several fronts, the Gunners must be careful not to see other transfer targets fall out of their reach.
