Report: Champions League club will go all out to try and sign 'magnificent' Spurs player this summer

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso appears to be surplus to Antonio Conte’s requirements.

However, there seem to be several clubs eager to get their hands on the Spurs playmaker.

Villarreal have made it clear they’d love to sign Lo Celso, but “are not in a position” to do so.

Now, Atletico Madrid are reportedly desperate to bring the Argentina international to the Wanda Metropolitano.

According to Argentine outlet TyC Sports, Diego Simeone ‘dreams’ of having Lo Celso in his ranks.

As a result, Atletico will look to ‘make every attempt’ to land the Tottenham player next season.

Lo Celso, who Sevilla president Jose Castro recently called “magnificent“, spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal.

He impressed for Unai Emery’s side, helping them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

But as Villarreal won’t be able to move for Lo Celso, Atletico may well swoop in.

Estadio Deportivo recently reported that Tottenham have offered Lo Celso to Atletico Madrid ‘in recent weeks’.

That report then claimed there hasn’t been any progress on that front.

But judging by TyC Sport’s article, there could well be some movement in the coming weeks.

Lo Celso sure to kick on, even if Spurs offload him – TBR View

Tottenham signed Lo Celso on loan in the summer of 2019 before buying him outright the next year.

However, his career at Spurs never really got going amid injury and form issues.

The suspension of English football due to covid likely played a part in the player’s struggles to settle.

Nonetheless, even if Conte doesn’t plan to use Lo Celso, he’s a good enough player to make a name for himself elsewhere.

After all, he has done very well for Argentina’s national team in recent years.

Atletico, one of Spain’s top teams and a regular Champions League competitor, would be a good fit for Lo Celso.
