Report: Celtic face big 'stumbling block' in talks to get £1m deal over the line
BBC Sport claim that Celtic face a major ‘stumbling block’ in their pursuit to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer. Reports have emerged this week that Spurs and Celtic are in talks to take Hart north of the border. But a new report says his wages could throw a spanner in the works.
Hart, 34, is surplus to requirements at Tottenham. That is, after Fabio Paratici lured Pierluigi Gollini to Spurs from Atalanta on a loan-to-buy deal. With Hart third choice, Spurs are looking to get rid and Celtic are considering a move. Fabrizio Romano said this week that Celtic are in talks.
Now, a report from BBC Sport claims Celtic face a major stumbling block in their pursuit of Hart. Unsurprisingly, it his wages. Spotrac claim that Hart is currently earning £52,000 a week at Tottenham. Celtic will have to convince Hart to take a pay cut if the ex-Manchester City man is to join the Hoops.
Can Celtic convince Tottenham star Hart to take pay cut?
Celtic can perhaps afford to pay slightly more than half of what Tottenham are currently paying Hart. While that is pure speculation, it is likely to be in the ball park. What will help Celtic is that The Record claim the Hoops will only need to pay £1million to get the Tottenham goalkeeper.
So, while Celtic may have to make Hart one of their biggest earners to get him – they save a whole lot of wedge when it comes to his transfer fee. All in all, Hart is excellent value and even if they agree a wage in the region of £30,000 to £40,000 – then it is a good bit of business.
