Report: Tottenham could sell £52k-a-week man for £1m
The Daily Record claim that Celtic would have to pay just £1million to sign Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart. Reports this week claim that Celtic are in talks to sign the 75-time England international. Now, the price needed to get Hart at Celtic has surfaced – with Tottenham requesting just £1m.
Hart, 34, is in the final 12 months of his contract – having put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Spurs last summer. In his first season with the North London club, Hart only played 10 times for Tottenham. Keeping five clean sheets, he conceded eight – but failed to play in the league.
Spurs have lured Pierluigi Gollini to Tottenham on a loan-to-buy deal from Atalanta – meaning Hart is now third choice. Given he is on a £52k-a-week (Spotrac) contract, he is somewhat expensive for a third-choice goalkeeper. Now, a report claims Tottenham are ready to sell him for just £1million.
A win for all parties at £1m – Celtic, Hart and Tottenham
Firstly, Tottenham. They signed Hart on a free transfer under Jose Mourinho. So, weirdly, Spurs are actually making a profit on Hart by selling him for a bargain £1million. Celtic are getting a goalkeeper that is easily worth more than £1million, if they can agree on a pay packet.
Hart himself is joining a side that are still in with a chance of qualifying for European football – and are in a two-way race for a league title. Celtic are well within a chance of winning three trophies this season – even though they are in the midst of a transition. It suits all involved.
