Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a transfer blow, with Sky Sports reporting that they look set to miss out on one of their reported targets.
The Sun reported last week that Jose Mourinho’s men were interested in Wigan Athletic pair Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir. It was suggested that Spurs had made approaches for the two teenagers.

However, the report noted that Brighton were also monitoring the latter.
And it now appears that it is the Seagulls who have won the race.

According to Sky Sports, Brighton are expected to complete a deal to sign Weir. The report suggests that Graham Potter’s side will pay around £600,000 for his signature.
Despite losing a bright youngster, the news is likely to be welcomed by the Latics. The club recently entered administration, so the funds will surely prove helpful.
TBR View: Spurs fans unlikely to rue missing out on Weir
It must be noted that there were a number of Tottenham fans who were underwhelmed by the reports.
The pair may have enormous potential. But neither is currently established in the Wigan side. And after such a disappointing season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Spurs fans seem desperate to see almost all of the transfer focus be used on players capable of making an immediate impact.
It may be that Tottenham ultimately rue missing out on Weir if he realises his potential.
But with much more pressing concerns heading into the window, Spurs fans may not mind if Brighton signing Weir proves to be the biggest blow they take over the summer.
