Tottenham fans react as Spurs reportedly eye Wigan pair

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun over the weekend suggesting that Spurs are eyeing summer moves for Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir.

The pair are currently coming through at Wigan Athletic. But with the Latics entering administration last week, their futures appear to be somewhat uncertain.

The Sun reports that Spurs have made an approach for both of the youngsters. But it is also noted that Everton are interested in Gelhardt, while Brighton are chasing Weir.

Unfortunately, the news has not gone down entirely well amongst some of the Tottenham fans on social media.

The summer window looks to be a crucial one for Jose Mourinho. Spurs sit 10th in the Premier League and it looks incredibly unlikely that they will be playing in Europe next year.

Therefore, plenty of fans are hoping to see the club make some statements in the market. The supporters are desperate to see the first-team strengthened.

And unfortunately, signing Gelhardt and Weir will not alleviate the concerns that the supporters currently have.

Several insist that they would welcome their arrivals if they do join. The Sun notes that Tottenham believe that Gelhardt can be developed into the next Harry Kane.

But it appears to be fair to say that these rumours have done little to capture the imagination at what appears to be a critical time to many Spurs fans.
