Report: Borussia Dortmund want 'brilliant' Tottenham player
Borussia Dortmund are amongst a host of clubs interested in signing Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur, but the Daily Mail reports that a move to the Bundesliga is unlikely.
Dele continues to be linked with a move away in the final days of the January transfer window. He was one of the first-team players who was nowhere to be seen for Spurs’ trip to Chelsea at the weekend.
Everton and Newcastle have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old. But the Daily Mail has named a raft of other sides also interested in signing Dele this month.
Brighton and Burnley are poised to make a bid should Dele still be a Tottenham player next week. But the Daily Mail adds that Dortmund are also keen on the England international.
It is suggested however, that a move to Germany is not expected.
Borussia Dortmund interest in Dele Alli intriguing amid Tottenham struggles
It is a surprise that Dortmund are interested in signing Dele. Marco Rose’s men are not out of the title equation in the Bundesliga this season. They currently sit six points adrift of Bayern Munich and have taken nine points from their last three.
Dele meanwhile, has struggled under several managers at Tottenham. And for some, it may seem particularly ominous that Antonio Conte has been unable to get a tune out of the attacking midfielder.
He should be coming into the peak years of his career. And yet, he has looked a shadow of the player who scored 28 Premier League goals across his first two seasons with Spurs.
There were glimpses of what he can do. He was excellent in the dramatic draw with Liverpool in December. And he is definitely worth the gamble for a host of Premier League clubs. Ian Wright labelled him ‘brilliant‘ earlier this season.
But Dortmund’s interest is definitely intriguing. Perhaps it may be something to keep an eye on ahead of the summer.
