Some at Middlesbrough believe that Tottenham Hotspur are delaying making an offer for Djed Spence in the hope of driving his asking price down, according to a report from The Northern Echo.
It is difficult to know where Spurs’ pursuit of Spence really is. Reports have claimed that Antonio Conte’s men had expected to wrap up a move for the right-back at the weekend.

However, that came and went and no deal for Spence was completed. In fact, The Northern Echo reports that Middlesbrough have not yet received a single offer for the 21-year-old.
And they have their theories as to why that is. According to The Northern Echo, some at the Riverside Stadium believe that Tottenham are holding back on making a bid in the hope of the asking price dropping.

It is no secret that Boro are prepared to sell Spence. But they want £20 million for the youngster.
Tottenham delaying an offer for Spence
It would be a gamble for Tottenham to delay making an offer for Spence. He is someone who has been linked with Arsenal. And Nottingham Forest would surely love to bring their former loanee back to the City Ground.
Antonio Conte is reportedly a big fan of Spence. So he will not want to miss out on the youngster – who was labelled ‘unbelievable‘ after his FA Cup display against Arsenal this past season.
The gap between the two clubs’ valuation cannot be too great, given how highly Tottenham do rate Spence. So surely, it will not be too long before Spurs do indeed confirm their interest with a bid.
And given how quickly their pursuit of Yves Bissouma has moved, it would be little surprise if Tottenham wrap things up for Spence quickly once they put their foot on the accelerator.
