Report: Bernd Leno is waiting to see who Arsenal sign before deciding future
Arsenal goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, is waiting to see who the club brings in as its new stopper before making any decision on his future.
The Gunners are being linked with a new goalkeeper this summer. Aaron Ramsdale is the top target, although both Sam Johnstone and Andre Onana have also been mentioned.
It’s believed that Mikel Arteta wants to keep current number one Leno at the club. However, The Sun has now reported that Leno is biding his time before deciding his own future.
The Sun’s report states how Leno is waiting to see who Arsenal sign. He will then assess his own position, before making a decision on his future.
Leno was signed by Unai Emery in a deal worth a reported £19.3m back in 2018. He’s been the number one ever since, although he did briefly come under threat from Emi Martinez.
The whole situation regarding Arsenal, Leno, and Ramsdale is an odd one really.
Leno is the number one and Arteta has made that clear. But then for the Gunners to go and spend circa £30m on Ramsdale seems an odd move if he’s not going to be the number one. For Ramsdale too, it seems odd to make the switch and sit on the bench.
There must be something bubbling at the club when it comes to Leno. It could be that they feel now’s the time to cash in, if they do indeed get Ramsdale.
Either way, it’s a scenario Mikel Arteta needs to get a hold of and quickly.
