Report: Barcelona send message to reported Liverpool target over new contract
Reported Liverpool target, Ousmane Dembele, has been issued an ultimatum by Barcelona over a new contract with the club.
Dembele is due to enter the final 12 monts of his deal at the Nou Camp after being a key figure for Ronald Koeman last term.
However, there is no sign of fresh terms being agreed yet. As reported on TBR last week, the Frenchman is said to be relaxed about the situation.
But ESPN have claimed that Barcelona are now becoming frustrated with Dembele. So much so, it is believed the Catalan giants will sell him if he doesn’t agree to new terms in the coming weeks.
Barca risk losing Dembele for nothing next summer. That would be a nightmare scenario, given they paid around £97m for him.
Reports from Spain have credited Liverpool and Manchester United with an interest in Dembele as recently as April.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been an admirer of the speedy forward for some time now as well. Should Barca decide to sell, then there is every chance the Liverpool boss instructs FSG to get it done.
Dembele suits Liverpool style but remains a risky one
There is no doubt there is a talent player in there. Dembele has all the tools to be successful in his locker. But it’s not quite happened yet.
In fairness to him, he has suffered with injury. He’s also at a Barcelona side who are in a mini transition. Leo Messi is not quite what he was. While Ronald Koeman has had a tough time adapting.
It’s also not his fault Barca paid so much for him. But, he needs to start delivering. Further, he’s not really in a position to be putting his club under pressure.
That being said, he’d suit Liverpool if fit. His speed, directness, and willingness to get in behind would be great for Klopp. And if Leo Messi thinks you’re a ‘phenomenon’, then you can’t be half bad!
