Report: Barcelona want Bellerin if Emerson joins Spurs
Arsenal look set to receive a boost if Emerson Royal joins Spurs with the Daily Mirror reporting on their live blog (30/8; 22:40) that Barcelona plan to bid for Hector Bellerin as his replacement.
One of the Gunners’ biggest problems in this window has been moving on some of their unwanted players.
Bellerin is certainly one of those to have been heavily linked with the exit. In fact, it was reported back in mid-July that the Spaniard had told Arsenal that he wanted to leave.
However, attracting bids for the 26-year-old has proved to be an issue. And with that, Mikel Arteta has been unable to strengthen at right-back.
But perhaps Spurs’ potential move on deadline day may actually do Arsenal a favour.
According to the Daily Mirror (30/8; 22:40), Tottenham are chasing Barca full-back Emerson.
The 22-year-old is reportedly a player Arsenal wanted. But he is keen to join Spurs.
And that may still come with an upside for the Gunners. According to the Mirror, the £26 million-rated starlet moving to North London will prompt Barca to move for Bellerin.
It is claimed that the Catalan giants view Bellerin as a better option than Tottenham defender Serge Aurier.
Arsenal face dilemma if Barcelona make move for Bellerin should Spurs sign Emerson
For many, it will seem like a no-brainer for Arsenal to cash in if Barcelona make a late move for Bellerin.
He has arguably not been the same player in the last few years. And they have other options at right-back.
But Arteta may be wary of letting him leave if they do not have time themselves to land a replacement.
As much as Gunners fans will be frustrated to see Emerson join their rivals, most will surely welcome the door being opened for Bellerin to move on.
